Midwinter sun
Concept
This elegant and soothing painting represents a pale blue and gold cloudscape. It's shining bright in the middle and is full of delicate nuances in the upper and lower parts. This abstract landscape is inspired by the skies and peaceful atmosphere I find in the early morning in winter, when I go out and enjoy the first lights of the day. To me, it brings home the light of a sun that hasn't risen yet, but can already touch the lining of the clouds.
Technique
This original mixed media artwork is made with acrylic colors, gesso, resins mixed with sands and metal pigments. The final varnish is glossy, to emphasise the brightness of the metal pigments. Due to the metallic pigments, when hit by the light it may shine in different ways depending on the direction of the light. Being richly textured, it gives the viewer both a visual and a tactile experience.
